Below is the article from the local newspaper, The Daily Courier, Grants Pass, Oregon - October 26, 2007: HOLISTIC MESSAGE CONTINUES TO BE HEARD Jack Schwarz was a pioneer in the field of holistic education, a naturopath, minister in the Universal Church of the Master, humanitarian and the author of nine philosophical books that define his beliefs, all but one of which are still in print. He also founded the holistic, nonprofit Aletheia Foundation, now based in Grants Pass. 
The foundation's programs are designed to synthesize the findings of science with the revelations of spirituality by teaching others how to develop their own optimal states of health. Although it's been seven years since his death and 49 years since the Aletheia Foundation was established, his holistic message continues to be delivered loud and clear, thanks in large measure to the Rev. Lois Schwarz, 66, his partner for 33 years, a fellow minister in the Universal Church of the Master since 1986 and foundation co-director. "When Jack passed away I said that the Aletheia Foundation had to continue and I still have people who are involved with it that I can count on," says Lois Schwarz, who is currently writing a biography about her late partner called "The Man of Tomorrow." "Our whole thing is that, in order to serve people, you should minister holistically to the mental, physical and spiritual parts of them," she says. In 1985 the foundation established a church in Ashland once it remodeled the former 13,000-square-foot Joseph Winans Furniture building and converted it into a holistic center. "Jack and I were such public figures we had very little privacy. We were together 24 hours a day and we traveled the majority of the year, giving talks from Europe and Canada to ancient places, so we had the center in Ashland but always lived in Grants Pass," she says. "Then the 1980s became an age of greed. People changed and the center became too costly to operate, so from 1992 to 1996 we reduced the center to a 4,000-square-foot location in Ashland. There is no center now, but it's still a dream of the foundation to open a holistic spa in Ashland and I hope that the funds come in to do that. "I'm doing holistic health assessments while I'm working on Jack's biography. I've written most of it in Jack's words and that's what makes it so exciting. I'm editing it now and I hope to finish it by the end of the year. I want the book to become a television series and a movie because I used to refer to Jack as an adult Harry Potter, Superman, Gandhi and Don Quixote all in one," she says with a smile. Schwarz hasn't lined up a publisher for her book yet, "but if the book can bring in funds, I could really change things," she says. In addition to the books written by Jack Schwarz that are still in print, how does the Aletheia Foundation continue to get word out about itself? "It's word of mouth, and I send his books out all over the world. People remember his love: He cared and he was a naturopathic physician who knew the body inside out," she says. During his lifetime Schwarz was the subject of a study by researchers at the Menninger Foundation, a psychiatric research and education center: He demonstrated the power of mind over body when he didn't bleed after pushing a long sailmaker's needle through his biceps. Schwarz explained that by attaining specific brain wave states he could regulate his blood flow, the pain of physical trauma, heart rate and blood pressure. Another dream held by Lois Schwarz is to open a nonprofit youth and senior network for juveniles between 14 and 21 and seniors 50 and older. "I enjoy youth, I've had this idea since the early '80s, and I know nonprofits because I've been running one for 40 years. "People in both of these youth and senior age groups have high rates of suicide because they're not getting the help they need," she says. "In the future I'd like to see local youths and seniors in the program run a nonprofit restaurant where they'd do everything there, from marketing to food preparation, and the profits from the restaurant would go to the county's youth and senior services."
